These two ways have their own advantages and disadvantages.
11月 20, 2020 12:41 下午 #1634
Disadvantages of intermediary
Assuming that you have the ability of top 30, the intermediary will deliberately lower your expectations and say that you have the top 50 at most, and then make a fake effort to say that you have taken the AD of top 30 with their help.
假设你本身就有 Top 30 的能力，中介会故意压低你的期望说你最多 Top 50，然后假模假样的努力一番说经过他们的帮助你拿了 Top 30 的 AD。

The feedback from the intermediary comes from the information you provide. Some intermediaries don’t know you enough, and the materials prepared are not in line with your own situation.

Advantages of intermediary
1. As an organization and company, it has rich resources and can provide you with more help, such as internship opportunities and scientific research projects.
2. Application process of intermediary will be more perfect, and the ability to resist risks is stronger.
3. Save time and energy, and avoid unnecessary trouble.

Benefits of applying for studying abroad by yourself (DIY)
1. You know yourself better and know what school and project you are suitable for.
2. Save money.
3. It’s a good opportunity to exercise your capacity.
4. By DIY, you can directly obtain the information of each university and the local situation to avoid misunderstanding or information hiding in the process of reporting.
If you want to apply for graduate school on your own, I have a post that may help you.

I think if I have enough abilities, I can choose to apply for a graduate program by myself.
Sometimes the agency may not know you well, so the plan made for you may not be needs

I think you can use both ways to apply, the agency will tell you what you should prepare and establish a schedule for you but the main thing and details are depending on yourself. From my personal experience, finding an agency is just a channel for information about graduate schools. We are ordinary students after all we don’t have various information sources. I applied to the Australian University by myself because the application requirements of Australia are relatively easy so I don’t need to waste money hiring agents. It depends on you if you are not confident about applying on your own, then you can hire an agent. But the question is that different agency has different service quality and sometimes it’s not linked to the price.

I think the intermediary has its meaning. The intermediary is like a coach who accompanies you during a marathon. It can remind you when you are confused or lazy, and give you more positive motivation and guidance. But on the other hand, many of the intermediary services are not very good. For example, a lot of information is public, and we can collect it on our own. But the intermediary has the more rich successful experience, which may be able to provide consultation.

Both approaches have their own advantages. I think my application will face many problems to be dealt with, so I will be very busy and tired. This can be alleviated by handing it to an intermediary, but it is expensive. So I think the final decision depends on your point of view.

I agree with your opinions. But I still do not like to use some agency. When I apply for US school, I did it by myself and I found all universities would make a detailed description to show how to apply. And each step of the application will be explained clearly. I really think it is worth doing this by myself. When I doing the application, i will found that it is a good way to understand why I apply this programme and why me and why this school. THis an good communicating way between each other. If there is an agency, the gap will not be filled.

：It is best to choose what suits you. The most important thing is that we need to know that paying for an agency does not mean that we can leave it. Participating in the application process as much as possible is a good way to train ourselves.

I would like to choose a intermediary, because I think I may be too busy to handle these things in my last year.

It depends. If you are confident enough, you definitely could try to DIY your application. However, for most students, we do not clearly know the process and we are not as informative as these intermediaries. So as for me, I prefer to choose an intermediary to help me since it could help me arrange my time and tell me what to do.

I think intermediary could be beeter for most students. Students who apply for graduate school for the first time don’t know exactly how to apply for dream schools or what material should they prepare. In the meantime, most students who want to apply for graduate school are juniors. They still have many courses to take. Thus, finding a intermediary can relive their pressure.

I recommend that students seek help from an intermediary for the following reasons:
First, the intermediary can save students’ time. By this I mean time spent doing trivial things like setting up an account, filling out information, mailing documents, etc., rather than having students save time by letting an agent take care of the very important things like resumes and paperwork. In addition to the basic information, all personalized materials should be completed by the students themselves, and the intermediary should only be responsible for the modification, otherwise there may be problems such as template documents.
Second, agents have a wealth of information channels, which can help students compare the strengths and weaknesses of different schools and programs. At the same time, experienced agents will also help students to make a reasonable schedule based on information such as application time, reservation fee and deadline of different schools.
As for the choice of intermediary, I think students can choose two kinds of intermediary according to their needs.
The first is a comprehensive agent who can take charge of the entire application process. This kind of agent charges a high fee, but usually has one or two designated teachers who communicate with the students throughout the process, so that they know the students better and can guide the entire application process in a targeted way.
The second type is the agent who only works on a single project, such as an internship project, a research project, revising a resume, revising an essay, etc. If students think they only need help in a certain area, they can choose this form, and the cost is lower.
In addition, I can recommend a blogger who has benefited me a lot by sharing tips on essay writing and so on. His article can be found from this link: https://weibo.com/6229389330/I0Ov7xRoK? from=page_1005056229389330_profile&wvr=6&mod=weibotime&type=comment#_rnd1615621938070

Because I am lazy, and the idea of wanting to go abroad appeared in my sophomore year, so I basically didn’t know any information about studying abroad in the early stage, and I didn’t know much about the admission threshold of foreign universities. In the case of tight time, I would recommend agency because they are service organizations. As long as we give money, they will arrange internships, plan exams, prepare papers, and a series of links that you don’t know much about.

If you apply for the corresponding school project online, you have to deal with and understand many complex processes. The following is a summary of the note for filling in the network application system: https://zhuanlan.zhihu.com/p/30008342
The first is to fill in a lot of information, including personal information, application project information, undergraduate education information. In addition, it is also very important to choose the right online application system. Learn about the schools and programs you want to apply for, and which online application system they are using. After that, you need to register an account, even activate the account or send a confirmation email from the school. Finally, we need to verify the transcripts, letters of recommendation and language scores. And every step in the process of these applications has the details that need to be paid attention to. Filling in the wrong part may lead to the failure of the application. For students who do not understand the detailed process of online application, it is better to find an experienced intermediary, which can reduce the risk of error and shorten the application time.

1. I think those students who have enough abilities can apply for graduate school on their own. Abilities like good TOFEL or IELTS scores, time planning capability, and information search capability. In my surroundings, I have friends who successfully applied for good graduate schools on their own.
2. I think whether to find a study abroad agency has something to do with the country you choose. In some countries, there are a large number of applicants in graduate schools, and the competition is fierce. At this time, the experience of studying abroad agency is useful. The study abroad agency will give you a good plan for your time. However, choosing a study abroad agency doesn’t mean you listen to them for everything. You need to find your favorite school and major first, because the study abroad agencies often recommend some popular universities to you. In addition, you need to improve your language and academic performance. Otherwise, looking for a study abroad agency will not give you the results you want.

In fact, anyone who has applied for the school is very clear about the application process, but the application for studying abroad is very time-consuming and time-consuming. For example, it takes a lot of time to find materials and sample essays if you write it yourself. Moreover, the intermediary has a large amount of information. The intermediary knows well about American schools, which schools are better, easier to get admitted, easier to have scholarships, and so on. These information intermediaries can provide the fastest information.

Different universities have different application conditions, and there are not many ways to understand these conditions. If some information is suddenly found to be missing when applying, this may affect our application. Because of that, it is better to find a reliable intermediary.

The choice of an agent depends on your familiarity with the process of applying to graduate school. If you have good language skills and are familiar with the application process, then you don’t need an agent at all, as all applications are clearly written on each school’s website, and you just need to submit your materials within the specified time. But people like me, who are completely ignorant of the application process, will choose the help of an agent. Because they have the resources to help you, they can also monitor your language test and improve your chances of application. The following link is for a discussion on whether you need an agent to go abroad for graduate study.

Do it yourself (DIY), as the name implies, is to complete all the applications for studying abroad independently without any agencies. Because many students are not familiar with the process of applying for graduate school, they will choose to find an institution to help them complete their application. The advantages and disadvantages of DIY and finding agencies for studying abroad.
– save time
– Teachers in institutions will be more experienced and can provide some necessary application skills
– sufficient information resources
– high cost
– Application lacks specificity
– The number of schools applied for will be limited by the terms of the agreement
– Since the institution has to serve many students, it is easy to be procrastinated or unconcerned
– Cost savings
– Control the choice of applying for a school by yourself, without being restricted by any agreement terms
– Comprehensively improve their comprehensive strength
– Make your own application unique
– Spend a certain amount of time and energy to obtain useful information
– A certain level of English is required
– Lack of some application skills
There are also many friends around me who apply to their ideal university with DIY, so there is no lower success rate of DIY than institutions. Because of the development of the Internet, we can also find the systematic information that agencies can provide on the Internet. The biggest problem with DIY is that it consumes a certain amount of time and energy, so if you are very close to the application season, choosing a reliable intermediary may be a better choice.
Do It Yourself (DIY), 顾名思义就是自己独立完成所有的留学申请，不找任何的中介。由于很多同学对于留学未知性的担忧，而会选择找机构帮自己完成留学申请。下面我会分别分析一下DIY和找留学机构的有点和缺点。

Students who are struggling with DIY or choosing an institution can consider semi-DIY, which is a compromise between agency and DIY application. The price will be much lower, and it can effectively solve some process problems of intermediary application and information asymmetry. There are also many institutions that provide semi-DIY services, or you can contact some excellent people to help you write your application essays.
The following are auxiliary tools that I think are helpful for semi-DIY
This is a website that focuses on the application in Hong Kong. It will provide professional guidance on studying abroad. Basically, it will also provide students with similar majors and seniors from the school as mentors. It will also provide first-hand information about the school’s majors.
This APP helps you integrate complex information on the Internet, and will also provide many real admission cases for your reference.

If you are a person who has a clear plan and goal for your future, then I suggest you apply for a college yourself. Because most students who choose intermediaries do not have specific plans, and intermediaries can provide them with good resources and templates.

Both are actually fine. Applying on your own will save you agency fees, but you will also face many problems and difficulties that you don’t understand. Although you need to spend an agency fee to choose an institution, the institution is more professional than an individual, and can better help you with the preliminary preparations, and at the same time, it will help you choose the school to apply for more professionally. Therefore, I prefer to choose institutions.

As far as I know, due to the late emergence of sino-foreign cooperative universities and the smaller number of students, many agents do not know the characteristics, advantages and disadvantages of such schools, as well as the views of foreign universities on such schools. As a result, they are unable to take full advantage of the advantages of Sino-foreign cooperative universities, such as double enrollment, all-English teaching, students’ rich overseas experience and so on. Therefore, I would advise you to ask your alumni directly, especially those who have successfully applied to the school you want to go to. Their experience is often more valuable.

Here are some of my personal opinions: I recommend that both institutions and individuals apply. Because the study abroad agency will modify the document for the school in your chosen country, it will be different for different documents in the same country, but it may be similar. Therefore, in addition to the number of schools that have signed an agreement with the agency, we can deliver some applications independently, avoiding the expensive fees of the agency.

I think the role played by the study abroad agency is mainly to solve problems that you are not clear about studying abroad. The role of the description is to help select schools, provide paid internships, write recommendation letters and other documents, interview counseling and visa counseling. But regarding their own hard power, including GPA and standardized exams, they have no way to help you. And one’s own hard power is the main consideration to measure one’s own competitiveness. In my opinion, the study abroad agency is helpful. Helping you to graduate is part of it. At the same time, he will also urge you to achieve your goals. If you are confident in your abilities, you can avoid the cost of an intermediary.

If you have a lot of discipline and enough time to prepare, you can choose to apply on your own. However, if you feel you are inexperienced and confused about your future, an agent can provide you with great help.

DIY application is far easier than you think. Almost the classmates who have gone abroad through an intermediary are all feeling: “It turns out that applying to go abroad is so easy, and the intermediary has hardly helped me!” It is no exaggeration to say that a student with normal IQ, if you study seriously, it’s normal. The application routines mastered by study abroad consultants can be mastered in just two weeks, and in addition, you will be more responsible for your own affairs. The quality of application is much higher than that of an intermediary.

If you have enough strength, you can choose your own DIY and apply by yourself. But if your GPA isn’t high and don’t have internship experience, you can use organizations to help you quickly arrange the preparation you need to apply to graduate school, such as internships, languages, GRE or GMAT, and so on
